For the first time since it opened in July 2003, Waterfront Park’s Adventure Playground is undergoing a complete renovation. The first part of the two-part renovation has been completed, and the second portion of work on the Waterplay area will ready by spring.

The completed work includes resurfacing of the pyramid, painting and restoration of the large climbing structure, repairs to the steamboat structure, painting of the shade pavilions, and new musical instruments, including two kodo drums and a xylophone.

Waterplay Area expansion and improvements to come include repair and repainting of the spraying fish, a new 13 ft. water structure called Versa Splash, and restoration of the Waterplay concrete surface. The spraying fish are original to the playground and have been a popular attraction through the years. All improvements will be completed and open for play Spring 2018.

Much of the work has been done in-house by the WDC crew. Specialty work was done by On-Site Electrostatic Painting Co., and T&C Contracting, which installed new concrete surfaces. Landscape Structures sourced the new play equipment.

Adventure Playground renovation was funded by a grant from the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development.

Portions of the playground not under construction remain open to the public. The playground and park are open 365 days per year, 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The large climbing structure has been completely refurbished and painted in bright green, navy and silver.
