Plans for PlayWorks at Waterfront Park Phase IV move forward thanks to grants from the Norton Foundation and the Gheens Foundation
In 2018, Waterfront Park joined forces with Kentucky Science Center in an innovative and collaborative partnership that combines the best of what both organizations have to offer. The partnership unites education, recreation and environment, health and wellness, creativity and childhood development in an outdoor experiential learning area called PlayWorks at Waterfront Park that will be constructed as the first component of Waterfront Park Phase IV.
PlayWorks will connect kids to the river through creative play structures that challenge and engage, celebrating the waterfront’s industrial roots by using authentic artifacts as the catalyst for families and kids to “make play out of work.” The space will be filled with large scale experiences to climb, swing, slide, crawl and explore.
Thanks to generous support from the Norton Foundation and the Gheens Foundation, concept plans for PlayWorks at Waterfront Park were completed earlier this year and we are moving forward with engineering and design development. The entire team at Waterfront Park extends its deepest gratitude to the Norton Foundation and the Gheens Foundation for supporting this amazing project.
