In observance of Veterans Day, Waterfront Park will turn the Big Four® Bridge purple on Friday & Saturday evenings, November 10 & 11. The special lighting will be in coordination with the Active Heroes Veterans Day Weekend Wellness Festival taking place at the park’s Festival Plaza on Friday and Saturday. Bridge lights turn on at sunset and run through 1:00 a.m. every day.
In addition to the special lighting on the Big Four® and hosting Active Heroes, the Waterfront Park maintenance team was honored to donate 3 days to Eastern Cemetery to help cut grass and clear graves in preparation for the cemetery’s Veterans Day observance. The park crew and other cemetery volunteers were able to clear over 700 military graves so that flags can be placed for Veterans Day.
The Veterans Day Weekend Wellness Festival, presented by Active Heroes and sponsored by Bryant Heating & Cooling, will feature a workout area, Active Heroes information space and store, a massage area, jin sin jyutsu area, yoga classes, and other activities. In collaboration with participants around the country, Active Heroes will also lift 20 million pounds in order to raise awareness of the 20 daily veteran suicides. The event will conclude on Saturday with a timed 5K run in Waterfront Park.
Active Heroes, a 501(c)(3) charity, presents this festival to help reduce veteran suicide with military families and citizen supporters. All proceeds from the event will support Active Heroes programs in an effort to help eliminate military/veteran suicide. For more information, visit activeheroes.org.
