Waterfront Park Boat Slip Auction deadline extended

The deadline for bids for a boat slip in the Great Lawn Harbor has been extended to Friday, June 19, 2009. The Waterfront Development Corporation will auction individual boat permits for use during the Waterfront Independence Festival on July 3-4, 2009. details here
Waterfront Independence Festival concert lineup announced

The 2009 Waterfront Independence Festival, presented by Fifth Third Bank, has announced the concert lineup for the two-day event. On Friday, July 3, Country artist J.D. Shelburne will open the evening, followed by Steve Wariner and headliner Joe Nichols. On Saturday, July 4, the evening will be kicked off by hip-hop artist Lyrics Born, followed by Greyboy Allstars and the finger-poppin' funk of the legendary Ohio Players. Flags4Vets Memorial Day Observance

Flags4Vets had a beautiful observance of Memorial Day at Waterfront Park last weekend. 25,000 flags were placed on the Great Lawn to spell "USA." At noon on the 25th, a short program included bagpipes, a bugler, and a life-sized model of Black Jack, The JFK Funeral Caisson Riderless Horse. The Black Jack model is the mascot for the National Flags For Veterans' Graves Program. The flags from the observance will be used to mark veteran's graves all over the United States.

On April 18, My Morning Jacket released a live EP that contains songs from their 2008 appearance at Waterfront Park, as well as several songs recorded at ear-x-tacy. The EP (in both CD and limited edition double 10″ vinyl) will be available at finer independent retailers beginning on Record Store Day, April 18. This video from the MMJ website is a great take on Waterfront Park and the community.
